*Keep in mind that these are the FAA minimum requirements. The national average to achieve proficiency and safety as a pilot is around 60 hours.

Instrument Rating

An instrument rating allows you to fly on days when the weather isn’t cooperating for visual flight rules (VFR) and days when the clouds and visibility are not a factor for flying by visual references outside the airplane.

An instrument rating is not a license, but rather an add-on to an existing Private Pilot License that allows you to fly in the clouds or in low visibility which make it necessary to fly the airplane refencing only the flight instruments inside the aircraft.

An instrument rating is arguably the most difficult to obtain, but the payoff is high. It will make you a safer pilot and will make it much more likely that you’ll always be able to complete a planned flight because weather conditions are less of a factor.

The requirements to obtain an instrument rating are listed in CFR 61.65 and include:

  • Private Pilot License
  • Minimum age of 17 years
  • Total Flight Time: 50 hours PIC
  • Simulated or Actual Instrument Flight Time: 40 hours
  • Instrument Instruction Flight Time: 15 hours
  • Passed FAA Written Test
  • FAA Practical Test (Checkride)

Advanced Flight Training

If you already hold a Private Pilot Certificate and are ready for a “step up” in airplane power and complexity, Frequency Change Aviation can help with that!

If you are a current or prospective Cirrus or Bonanza owner, we have staff that can help you transition into that aircraft or obtain additional licenses or ratings for that aircraft. We can even assist you in finding the right aircraft or connect you with a current owner seeking partnership.

Commercial Pilot License

Obtaining your commercial pilot license is a significant milestone in your aviation journey, opening doors to a rewarding and dynamic career in the skies. Whether you aspire to fly for major airlines, cargo operations, or charter services, Frequency Change Aviation can help you get there.

Commercial Pilot License Requirements

Federal Aviation Requirements indicate a pilot must achieve the following to obtain a commercial pilot certificate:

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) License

As a CFI, you will not only have the opportunity to fly but also have a direct impact on shaping the next generation of pilots.

At Frequency Change Aviation, we’ll guide you through the requirements, training, and examinations necessary to become a top-tier flight instructor. You’ll be able to learn from the best and develop effective instructional techniques to inspire a new cohort of students.
